Introduction

In March 2003, FBI arrested a person named Andrew Carllsin, aged 44.

According to various newspaper report, this person was considered as extra-ordinary lucky. He invest $800 in a peroid of 2 weeks and made around $350 million, which is the highest profit made by anyone in such a short peroid of time in history.

FBI suspected him for running a scam and they considered him as an insider trader.

But when Andrew was questioned upon this topic, he stated that he is a time traveler and claimed that he has came 250 years from future.

He further said that he already knew which stock is going to rise up and he invested according to it and made such a huge profit.

FBI was convinced that he is surely lying and they planned to prove him as a lier.

After investigation, it came to be known that there was no record of Carllsin before year 2002.

On the day of 3rd April, he had to appear in court for his Bail Hearing, but he disappeared and was never found again.

Was he really a time traveler? Can this really happen? or Can this only happen in Science Fiction movies?

To answer all these questions, let's understand it in detail.

What is a Time Machine?

In the year 1895, writer H.G. Wells wrote his famous novel, named The Time Machine. From this incident only, the word Time Machine became popular.

It was considered as a machine through which you can in past of future of your time. You can travel across time.

Although it was a fiction, but it inspired many scientists and philosophers. Many serious search papers and films were also created related to Time Machine. Let's talk about the differnt kinds of Time Machine procedures discovered till now.

Time Travel Method in Films

You might have seen or heard about various science fiction movies based on Time Travel. Even many of them were super-hit and earned great profit too.

Let's talk about the various methods of Time Travel practiced in these movies:

1.One-sided Time Travel: It means one-way travel to the future. It means you can't return once travelled to future.

Intersteller film can be considered as its example.

In this movie, the person do time travel and after he returns he finds his family members either aged or even died.

2. Instantaneous Time Jumping: It is described as a person travels from one time to another through a portal.

It is illustrated in the film Back to the Future and in The Girl Who Leapt Through Time movie.

3. Standing still Time Travel: It means that a person is standing still and time is evolving around him.

credit - Nerdest

It is shown in Harry Potter: Prisoners of Azkaban movie, where Hermione uses time turner.

4. Slow Time Travel: It is shown in Primer movie in 2004, where a person has to go in a box. The amount of time he spends in the box, the same amount of time he would go in the past.

For example, if he want to go in 1 day past, then he has to spend 24 hours inside that box.

5. Travelling at Speed of Light: It means to travel faster than the speed of light to time travel.

It is shown in the movie of Superman in 1979, where Superman travels faster than light and hence does a Time Travel.

Now a question might arise in your mind that which method is possible and can be expected in future?

While which method is completely impossible or unscientific?

Though many of these methods is applicable for the advanced future and hence are reasonable.

Types of Time Travel

There are about 2 ways in which time travel can be done:

1. Traveling to Future: The scientific theories and explanation of traveling to future had been derived from Albert Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity.

Time Dilation was the concept introduced by Albert Einstein. Before this everyone thought that Time is Constant, that means time is same everywhere whether on Earth or Mars.

Time Dilation can be carried out by 3 ways:

1. By speed: We can travel in future if we could time travel by the speed of light. The speed of time decreases with the increase in speed of an aircraft.

Let me explain, If we can make an aircraft which can travel more than the speed of light, then we can do time travel to the future.

The problem is even high-technological aircrafts can't even reach near the the speed of light as its too fast. But as our Technological Advancement is progressing day by day, so this type of aircraft can be expected to be made in future.

Hence time travel can be possible by speed in future.

2. By Gravitational Force: The more the gravity, less will be the speed of time. This could be understand as if a person is made to stay near Jupiter or Sun, which have much higher gravitational force than Earth, then the person can do time travel.

This concept is shown in the movie Intersteller, where a person lives in a planet near Black Hole (which has a very high gravity!). For them spending 1 hour on that planet was equal to 7 years on Earth!

This is a scientifically accurate thing which really exists. But the problem is whether a person can survive near Black Hole or not?

3. Cryosleep: This method can also be used to travel in future by slowing down the pace of becoming old.

This method is shown in the movie Passenger, in which people were frozen in a well-maintained storage. They doesn't gets aged and has to sleep for months or years!

The same thing is carried out by NASA who is making a Statis Chamber where astronauts will be kept in a mild cold environment where they had to just sleep for 2 weeks.

The concept behind this is if the a person is asleep, so his energy consumption will be low and as a result ageing would be with a slow pace.

Let's see whether the experiment carried out by NASA would be successful or not?

2. Traveling to Past: One way through which we can travel to the past is by reaching a place before a light travels there.

For instance, let me give you a simplified explanation - A light usually takes thousands of years to travel in light years. So if a technology could be made through which we can reach that place before light, we would be able to see the past which is carried out by the lights.

credit - Universe Today

But it has a problem that we can only see the past but couldn't travel or change it.

Another methods to travel in past is again Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity. For this, a extremely high gravitational planet is needed which could be only Black Hole.

This method seems to impossible as it requires negetive energy which is another big topic and needs a big explanation. For more details regarding negetive energy you can see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_energy.

Paradox

Traveling to Future isn't a big problem and can be expected to be done in future but traveling in past possesses many problems like the Paradox. Let's discuss it in some detail:

1. Grandfather Paradox: Suppose you did a time travel in past and killed your grand grand father. But now if you have killed you grand grand father, then your grandfather won't exists, then your father and you won't exists.

credit - Medium

But if you don't exists, then how you did that time travel and killed your grand grand father (It might be confusing). Either you are alive or you aren't alive?

This thing is this method goes against logic and is explained in Theory of Multiverse, which states that once a work in done it exists in one universe but if a thing is done another time, then from there a new universe if formed called the multiverse.

2. Predestination Paradox: It states that things will go as written in destiny. You can't change it even by traveling in past and you yourself will become the cause of that act.

For example - Suppose a person died in a accident. Another person traveled in that time in order to save him.

credit - Wikipedia

But as you reached there you came to be known that you were the cause or the reason behind the accident. Your Time Travel only resulted in that accident (Confusing?).

So traveling in past is still impossible but seeing of glimpse of past is possible.

The same way traveling to future is possible even today and its possibility will keep on increasing in future.

Important Note: The person named Andrew Carllsin don't really exists. It was just a rumor spread in a small newspaper.
